[SUGGESTION] Contributing to a more unified fandom

Hello~

I want to start off by saying thank you for all the hard work that you guys put into this site. Without it, Block B wouldn't have nearly as many international fans as they do now. I know the moderators and those who run the site all lead busy lives but you guys still stick around for the sake of our boys and no one can deny that, so thank you so much for subbing, translating, organizing, and providing information that all I-BBCs need.

Now, seeing that this is the official HQ for the I-BBC fanbase, I know that BBI has had a lot of BBCs (like me) following it relatively from the very beginning. But I've been noticing as of late that the fandom isn't as strong as it used to be. Now there are plenty of factors involved but it really showed yesterday with Kyung's birthday and the trends. I saw five different trends, different times, etc. and it was very confusing. Some fanbases started a poll well in advance but their ideas were shot down at the last minute. It wasn't a pretty sight to see, to be honest.

It could be my hazy memory but I remember how involved and interactive BBI was with the rest of the fandom, especially during birthdays. There were regular tweets reminding BBCs to contribute to the birthday projects, there were poll options to see what the majority of the fandom could agree on, etc. But I don't see those things anymore and it would be helpful to let fans be more involved in the decision making process.

Not everything needs to be ran through the fandom before anything is decided, but the birthday trending was one of those times where it would've been highly appreciated if suggestions were taken and a poll was done in advance. I think the outcome would've been a lot better.

I write a lot but I guess, in summary, I suggest BBI to be more open to Twitter suggestions and interact with fans more. Ask them what they want, be open about receiving questions, etc.

Thank you in advance.

You made a very good point. I had the feeling this forum is kind of inactive in general, too. Nobody has updated any schedule or something else since april.
I am not one of the BBC's from the start - why? Because I only know about K-pop since about a year.
I always see people writing stuff about seeing videos or talking about new information and I always feel a bit left behind because I have no idea what they are talking about nor where they got that information from.
I saw the topic for the "trends" but I had no bloody idea what this is, what this means.
I have never used twitter or anything else. I think I am probably not the only one without any knowledge.

Well, the question is still: What can we do to support our boys better?

You are not the only one who feels like this. It seems like especially after the scandal died down the BBC fandom became extremely quiet (not only on this forum, but on twitter and tumblr as well). I don't know if the reason for this situation now is because BBCs left the fandom or because they are just lurking around and waiting quietly for our boys to make a comeback (like me).

Also BBCs on tumblr and somewhat on twitter are not united anymore as they used to be. Everyone who checked the Block B tag on tumblr the last two months knows that there was frequently shit going down between some fans, so my guess is that this made some people stay away from the fandom too. They probably still like Block B, but don't bother to interact with other BBCs anymore or they moved on to twitter/tumblr fanbases they like more, which kinda leads to a not united fandom. But yeah, because of the scandal and everything a lot of BBCs are still... don't know how to say it... they don't know what to do at the moment and how to handle the situation (Zico always being away, no comeback infos etc.).

Imo we should work on bringing all the different Block B twitter, tumblr and forum fanbases back together again and use BBI as the main site. All the admins of these fanbases should of course remain, but we need some kind of headquarters to be much more organized again. Then I'm sure stuff like choosing trending topics, projects etc. will also work again.

Also this forum needs to be more updated. I don't want to offend anyone of the admins, managers, subbers etc. of BBI here, because you all do an awesome job and without you we would be totally lost! But I noticed that things aren't working so good for a while now. Maybe there are not enough staff people? So it would be awesome if someone from the staff could talk about this and maybe make some suggestions on how we can help! :3

For me I'll try to post more on here again!

I fully understand what you're talking about and I also agree. When I found out about Block B it was around the time of the controversy so when I went on Tumblr, Twitter, etc. I saw a bunch of posts regularly in January and February, but as soon as the incident happened all the tweets and posts just died down and there were less than usual. I was a new BBC at the time so I wanted to find out more about the boys, though it was hard considering I was following fansites and fanbases who weren't updating about them.
Also, I do not see many schedule updates either. There have been events with Block B in the past months, but no one updates the schedule so most BBCs don't know about them. I, personally, have to find out through the shoutbox. At first, I'm like "What the heck are they talking about" and then I finally understand as I research the topic a little bit more.
I appreciate admins, translators, etc. ALOOOT. They work so hard to keep fanbases together and I'm so thankful for them. However, they don't update is often as they use to anymore. I also notice BBCs fighting often and it really pains me to see this because we're suppose to be sort of a fan club family, but they're fighting like this over something like Zico, the return of Block B, many things.

Just an idea.. um I think there should be a suggestion page/topic for BBCs.

Well~ this is the suggestion part of the forum so there's no worries there.

And yes, as Lady V mentioned, the fandom has been on pins and needles for the past two/three months. I had a Block B-based tumblr for a while, but things started heading south soon after MTV's poll. There was plenty of arguing, name-calling, and bullying to go around until I just got fed up and deleted it. But when I did have a tumblr during "Tell Them," the bontheblock tumblr was very active. It was posting Twitter updates, Twitter compilations, selcas, Cyword posts, schedules, and just about everything that had to do with Block B. Now it's hardly updated.

So being consistent with updates are a great way to keep the fandom informed and up to speed, I think.

BBCs exist on different platforms (Tumblr. Twitter, Facebook, etc.) so if you're not on Twitter, trending wouldn't apply to a BBC who only uses Tumblr or Facebook. But I think BBI/bontheblock did the best when the forums, Twitter account, and the Tumblr account were simultaneously updated. Creating a Facebook page may be a bit of stretch and require a lot more planning but it's worth a shot, I think.

I think the facebook idea might not work for a lot of people, it is a very good idea, but lot of bbc don't use Facebook for their fandom at all, so im just guessing that lots of people would be like ...okey. They would appreciate the update of official news, but the interaction of fans might be very different than here. Nevertheless facebook could work very well, but block b has already a official facebook page.
Im actually really new on this forum and at the moment Im staying informed mainly through tumblr, there are still bbc blogs doing all the trans and posting the main news, maybe we should try to convince them for distributing more on blockbintl.com, facebook and twitter? ^^

The major difference is that before, things like bontheblock on tumblr and twitter were run by just a few people. They had plenty of time on their hands, they frequented those sites and were able to answer questions and respond quickly for these things.
However, now we've got a bigger team- staffers are divided up between their respective focuses and there isn't that much discussion.
The founders and translators are trying their best to get things done as quickly as possible.
We're sorry we can't be cute and funny and reply every time like bontheblock used to, but we're working really hard to get things done as quickly as possible before Block B's next comeback. Instead of things like trends, the team is focused on things like the gift project for Kyung and getting interviews and performances subbed and uploaded quickly.

It's a big change because the previous people the international fandom was used to have had to leave due to personal issues, and we can't quite fill their shoes. We're definitely trying, though! :)

And just so everyone knows-
tumblr sites like blockbclubbers and stardomfamily are run by people who are also intl block staff, so if bontheblock isn't updating to your taste, try them!

Again, I appreciate all of your efforts and as I said before, I know everyone on the staff leads busy lives. As for the more important things, this is exactly what I'm talking about though. Trending, birthday projects, etc., things that all BBCs can be a part of aren't really coming across as effectively as they were in the past. There were suggestions, polls, reminders, the works. Things that kept us informed and abreast on what needed to be done, because not everyone sees a tweet or a tumblr post. A single post gets lost in a mountain of other tweets/posts on someone's dashboard. When I kept getting reminders on my T-list, it really helped me to remember what was going on and how I could prepare myself for to fully contribute to the fandom.

As for tumblr sites like stardomfamily, I definitely like the fact that it has picked up the slack in keeping everyone informed. I also appreciate the fact that I can follow it on twitter and get constant updates. But could a merge be done among the sites? It's hardly efficient having multiple tumblrs when there's only one or two tumblrs that are active while the rest that are still associated with BBI is just lying there with figurative cobwebs.

As for interacting with the fans, it may not seem like much but it really does break the ice among BBCs, especially new ones. It gives the sense of the fandom being warm, inviting, and fun, just like Block B. It's obviously not what should be focused on, but a little interaction can go a long way. It made BBI/bontheblock seem like it wasn't so high/important that it was virtually unapproachable and cold, you know?

@Hallo: I frequent Facebook a lot and let me tell you, there are thousands of BBCs on Facebook, and a lot of them do get their information from Block B fan pages there. There are unofficial fan pages for Block B that get hundreds of likes/comments in a day but they don't have connections like BBI.

I don't want to seem like a whiny brat who insists on changing everything because I realize that it does take a lot of work running a forum plus different mediums for a fandom. It's just the tiniest of adjustments that I think would make the fandom in all places--not just tumblr--a much more welcoming place.

Hello everyone, founder Maddy here~

Founder Christina and I have read your suggestions and will definitely take them into account.

Because of the scandal with Block B and Thailand, most of their activity has been halted, as I'm sure you all know. We can only give out to you what Block B gives out to us, and we are working hard to provide you with as much as we possibly can.

We cannot suggest for the forum members to look at other sites for Block B other than official ones run by Stardom Entertainment or the ones run by us (tumblrs, twitters, etc) unless otherwise stated. This is because we simply have no control over whether or not that information is accurate as, like I said, they are not run by us.

I have seen quite a few people asking about the recent confusion with trending for Kyung's birthday, and yes, the tweet alerting everyone of the trend was late. That's the first and last time it will be that late, as we were having technical issues. We tweet trends based upon what is decided among staff, and we are going to open it up to the forum to decide what the next trend will be during the next round of birthday trending.

Thank you all for your understanding and we will continue to work hard in providing everyone with information and supporting Block B :)

I don't think it's just about the manager of the forum. Everybody can give their input to help other BBC's being up to date. A lot of times I have seen people talking about new videos, pictures but nobody said one word where they got that information from.

I think if everybody tries to keep all BBI projects (if its the forum, tumblr, twitter) on the same level of information this could be the first step.
Instead of just waiting for information everybody can help to make the unit stronger.

for me, BBCs are very matured.
All information always been updated esp on twitter & tumblr.
